LA PST

We tool a field trip to LA. The excuse – and a good one – the Getty is sponsoring a cool set of exhibits on the intersection of art and science over 2024 and 2025. Saw some of them, including a visit to the Getty itself, poked around, and had some fun.

Keith James, Photographer

Keith is a prosumer photographer (meaning he seems to rarely take money, but he should) – here he is at the Getty snapping (as usual). And he wrote it all up in this article.

Rick Shaughnessy, another Photographer

…including award winning shots. Grabbing the intricate and delicate Asian courtyard at the Pacific Asia Museum (where the exhibit featured dynamite as an artistic medium – really – explosions and all).

The Griffith Observatory

Built on a hill overlooking LA, with a storied past and several wonderful exhibits.

CalTech

Yes, home of The Big Bang Theory. And a few scientific breakthroughs too. And some public art like spectrum petals.

The Getty

Oil money. Turned into art. A lot of art.

Mystery House on Linda Flora

Across the canyon from the Getty. Half-finished super mansion? Anyone know what’s going on?

Museums on Wilshire

Tar pits, LA County Museum of Art, and the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. There’s also a car museum that we didn’t make it to (but is reportedly excellent).

Bernie’s Coffe Shop

It looks defunct now but what an interesting place. Seems like a coffee shop became LA’s progressives’ HQ, for a while anyhow – with LA style (somehow bold and kitschy at the same time). Right across from the Academy Museum.
