Spent a day in Santiago, Chile, and a couple of days in Mendoza, Argentina on the way home from Patagonia. (Slept in…)
Santiago City

Motto of the University
Our guide in Patagonia told us about this motto. Sounds tricky so I had to hunt it down…

Bellavista Neighborhood of Santiago
Seems to be the night life place, but lots of cool murals.

Cerro San Cristóbal
Nice climb up to a peak overlooking the city.

Mendoza
The heart of Argentina’s wine country, and old provincial city. Every street is lined with a ditch on each side for water so that every street has beautiful mature trees (many of them majestic plane trees). Everybody is out (including the kids) at 10 PM in the summer, sitting on their balconies, running around, watching a musical fountain display. Might have some mosquitos (Dengue!) though I didn’t see any.
I went into the local Carrefour (super market) and did a little study on the price of Malbec:
Malbec | Price in Argentina (USD equivalent) | Price in US (USD) (from wine-searcher.com) |
Fond de Cave | 7.30 | 16.00 |
Salentein Reserva | 10.84 | 20.00 |
Luigi Bosca de Sangre | 22.86 | 31.00 |
Rutini | 15.40 | 31.00 |
